Stakeholder Basics
What is a Stakeholder?
A stakeholder can be defined as any individual, group of people, institution or organisation that may have a significant interest in the success or failure of a project.
Stakeholders might include, but are not limited to:
- Project participants
- Staff
- Volunteers
- Project leadership / founders
- Community members
- Community leaders & traditional authorities
- Local government officials
- Land / key asset owners
- Donors / funders
- International supporters/ advisors
- Other supporters
As well as people and groups directly involved in your project, look wider to identify those outside your project that have an interest or influence in what your project does. This may be positive or negative, directly or indirectly.
You will need to involve at least some your project stakeholders in the process of designing and implementing meaningful data collection and project evaluation. But who are your stakeholders and how should you engage with them? Let’s see!
